Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 衛生政策與管理研究所 === 92 === Objective: To assess the relationship between re-employment and pregnancy outcomes of spouse for male workers who lost job due to factory closure. Design:Longitudinal study using data from the Labor Insurance, and the National Databank of Births provided by the Bureau of Health Promotion. Participants: 3,231 singleton newborns. Main outcome measures: Incidence of preterm delivery and low birthweight. Results: The incidence of preterm and low birthweight were 6.3% and 5.4%, respectively, for singleton newborns whose fathers lost job due to factory closure. The incidence of preterm for workers who continued being unemployed, was higher by 56% than workers who were re-employed after company closedown, and by 51% for the incidence of low birthweight. By using logistic regression analysis, we found that, after adjusting father’s age and insured wage, mother’s age and health problems, and newborn’s sex, re-employment was significantly associated with preterm (P<0.01), and the incidence of low birthweight. (P<0.05). However, re-employment had no bearing on low birthweight (P=0.22), after taking preterm into account. Conclusions: Re-employment is powerful in determining the incidence of preterm and low birthweight among workers of closed factory.
