It is expected that somehow the result of this study can help those women to take the issue of respect for the life of the fetus into account at the juncture of abortion making. In addition, it will be a good reference for the related units to care about the basic needs of those who make the non-abortion’s decision and to appreciate the right to life for the fetus who is the weakling of the weaklings. In this study, the given eleven samples were chosen by using purposeful sampling and snowball sampling. One-to-one in-depth interview and half-structured interview guide were used for data collection. As for data analysis, the background data of each sample is presented in the first part of the fourth chapter to show the unique experience of each individual’s non-abortion decision-making process. The second to the fifth part in the same chapter shows the cross-sectional comparative analysis of interview data to present the whole story of non-abortion decision-making process of all the participants. Four core categories were found by using the open-coding method: 1. The situation of facing the decision-making; 2. Coping for the choice of non-abortion; 3. The situation after birth giving; 4. Retrospect and appraisal. The main findings of this study are as follows: *Under the circumstance of unplanned pregnancy, the mothers will protect the life of her fetus if she has a strong recognition of life. *The problems that cause the mothers to face the abortion decision-making are “hard cases”, such as mother’s health problems or fetus’s defect; and “social reasons” like unmarried pregnancy, financial pressure, crisis in marriage and individual family’s superstition toward fetus. *Facing the hard decision whether to have abortion or not, mothers tend to have three kinds of reaction:“definitely not to have it”, “intend to have it” and “indecision”. The ecological system of the mothers including family’s members, relatives, friends, doctors, religious faith etc., also affected them significantly. Some of them exert pressure on the mothers-to-be or give them advice to have an abortion while others are encouraging and supporting the women in the family way to have the child. *The pregnant mothers are using some coping strategies to achieve the purpose of non-abortion. In such conditions, they need the strength from their ecological system to provide them with emotional, cognitive and material support and assistance. *Religious faith is very important in influencing the mothers to know the value of the fetus’s life, and to give them strength to overcome the difficulties and stresses. *In retrospect, the mothers felt lucky that they make the right decision to have their child and they feel worthy for all the suffering and sacrifice that they undergo. *On the premise of protecting the fetus’s life, all the eleven participants used their free will wisely. They present the bright and beautiful side of their life in respecting the value of life. Chun-Chih Wei 魏春枝 2004 學位論文 ; thesis 127 zh-TW |

碩士 === 靜宜大學 === 青少年兒童福利研究所 === 92 === The main purpose of this study is to explore the non-abortion decision-making process among the Taiwanese women who faced the problems or stresses of abortion.
The main findings of this study are as follows:
*Under the circumstance of unplanned pregnancy, the mothers will protect the life of her fetus if she has a strong recognition of life.
