Description
Summary:碩士 === 東吳大學 === 國際貿易學系 === 92 === The local banks in Taiwan are uncompetitive in the market due to the long-period protection by the government and limitation on business operation. Furthermore, with the liberalizing of new bank openings, the amount of banks in the country has increased too much, causing negative competition. On the other hand, after Taiwan enters WTO, the financial market must open increasingly to allow foreign banks more freedom to operate in the country. Under the current state of the local banks, we will not be strong enough to compete with foreign banks. Therefore, facing the trend of financial market globalization, the only route for the local banks is to globalize in order to enhance the competitive ability and deal with the future ever-changing financial market. Although the local banks have touted globalization for years, and some have established branches overseas, the benefits of globalization have yet to be seen. Taiwan’s bank is still Taiwan’s bank, non-competitor in the overseas market. In contrast, after Taiwan government allowed foreign banks to start operation in Taiwan, foreign banks have advanced in Taiwan in the past forty years. Most of the foreign banks that have come to Taiwan are well-known international banks, with better management strategies and competitive abilities than the local banks. The successful experience of foreign banks is worth to learn for local banks. This research is based on the comparison between the successful experience of foreign banks in Taiwan and the most globalized local banks with organization charts, market entry strategies, market establishments, management strategies, e-commerce, and human resources. By analyzing the key factors that have allowed foreign banks success in Taiwan, this research investigated the experiences of foreign banks from which local banks can learn and presented strategies for local banks to globalize.
