碩士 === 國立臺北科技大學 === 資訊工程系碩士班 === 92 === We live in the information-explosive era. Important information sources can be from books, internet, and from teachers or presenters. Due to interactions between presenters and listeners, the knowledge from teachers or presenters is more directly and easily to understand. Projectors, PCs, and laser pointers are important tools in a seminar. The laser pointer is used for pointing to an important area on the screen, and the PC is operated using a mouse. In a seminar or presentation, the presenters uses a hand to operate the computer through a mouse, and the other hand holds a laser pointer for pointing to the screen. So if we can merge the functions of a mouse and a laser pointer, it would be very convenient. This thesis discusses this issue and implement the system on a Windows-based PC. This system is named “Laser pointer detector.” This laser pointer detector system can detect the red spot of the laser pointer on the screen, translate the location of the spot to an absolute coordinate, send it to a Windows driver, and then move the cursor near by the red spot. With the system, the function of a mouse is fully simulated using merely the laser pointer.
