Both diversity combination method and code combination method are considered over a Rayleigh fading channel with Doppler effect. We consider convolutional codes with and without bit-interleaver. Bit error rate is obtained for both systems with either soft-decision or hard-decision Viterbi decoding algorithm. Simulation results show that both diversity combination method and code combination method significantly improve the system performance. Not surprisingly, bit error rate of systems using soft-decision Viterbi decoding algorithm is less than that of systems using hard-decision Viterbi decoding algorithm, and the performance of systems with bit-interleaver is better than those without.
