In this research, an elaborated seismic analysis will be undertaken with respect to the cable-stayed bridge protected with several isolators of Lead Rubber Bearings (L.R.B.) located at the conjunction of the tower and the box girder. To make the results more reliable, the influence of soil-structure interaction on the tower will be taken into account thoroughly, and the box girder will be modeled by using degenerated shell elements. Since the moving trajectories of nonlinear isolators would exhibit in an extremely irregular way when the external seismic force acts in a direction not parallel to the symmetric axes of the bridge, the model called as “movable force circle” is developed so as to describe the force-displacement relationship of the isolator appropriately. It is shown in the results that the performance of isolators on base shear reduction is closely related to the content of earthquake and the property of soil.
