Small groups were used as research surrogates to explore the characteristic of team formation and development. The research results are expected to contribute the understanding of on-line communities. Research question included in this study are “How interpersonal relationships in the real-world affect on-line interpersonal interaction relationships?” “How the on-line interpersonal interaction relationships are developed in a period of time? ” and “How the characteristics of on-line interpersonal network structure shape on-line learners?” The research results show that interpersonal interaction relationships in the real-world have strongly impacts on the formation and development of on-line learning communities. Different interaction network structures have positive and negative effects on the learners. Instructors may follow the results of this study to develop appropriate strategy to promote the performance of on-line learning communities.
