However , outdoor education is the key to make teaching and learning efficient if extension of education to living environment is required . Therefore , this study started with the retrospective of theories of integrated curriculum and outdoor education . Following these theories , “ Greeting to the trees ” is designed for the theme of environmental education , the structuralization and design of the curriculum are hence achieved . How elementary school teachers apply thematic integrated curriculum to connotation and teaching skills of outdoor environmental education has been studied as well . The subjects of this study include 125 elementary school students of 4th year and 4 teachers , the curriculum structure and learning form are creative and pluralistic for leading students to express their imagination and originality ; their ability to appreciate , express , taste and create is also fostered , to induce their intention of discovering the environment . The teaching planning has been approved by experts , then the experimental teaching is executed . Teaching performance is assessed throughout the experiment by evaluating efficiency of students’ learning , curriculum is redesigned and teaching skill is readjusted so that thematic integrated curriculum modules are formed properly . Interview with the teachers , observation during experiment , after-learning questionnaires and literature survey are major tools to analyze and cross-check the data acquired from different sources at different time . The result is : 1. Integrated curriculum combined with outdoor environmental education is established . 2. Teacher’s ability to designed curriculum is reinforced after experimental teaching is executed . 3. Observer teachers obtained different teaching experience throughout experimental teaching . 4. Finally , lessons learned of students consist five major parts : A. concept about the tree has been obtained by the students ; B. ecological game “Let’s plant the trees” was students’ most favorite activity ; C. drawing is the most favorite manner of curriculum ; D. 40 % students “like very much” such thematic integrated curriculum ; E. 60% students “like very much” to attend outdoor environmental education in the near future . Thereby four poits are suggested after this study : 1. Future similar study should include meta-evaluation to understand cognitive change of students . 2. Season should be chosen suitably for outdoor observation . 3. All the activities outdoor education should be taken account in order to have ample schedule , thus students could go easily in the nature. 4. Good planning and good management should be settled in outdoor education place , thus students and public could obtain more knowledge about nature and environmental education.
