Because the fuel cell system does not have the capability of energy storage, the output voltage of the system is easily affected by the load variations and polarization loss, therefore it is necessary to utilize power electronic techniques for electric energy sharing and compensation. This thesis consists of three parts. The first part focuses on the basic characteristic of the fuel cell system in order to provide guideline for power converter design. The second part aims at the DC/DC bi-directional control technique and single-phase PWM inverter control with sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) technique. The third part integrates the system with a DC/DC converter and a single-phase inverter. The performance and efficiency of the system is measured. In this thesis, DC/DC power converter models were constructed with a DSP-based controller. A high performance digital signal processor (DSP, TMS320LF2407A) was used to implement the system for reducing the circuit components and system cost.
