Efficient, effective and objective performance evaluation not only encourages good designers but also promotes the image of a company. Existing performance evaluation methods such as BARS (Behaviorally Anchored Rating Scales), BSC (Balanced Scorecard), DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis), etc. are designed mainly for manufacturing and service industries. When used for designer’s performance evaluation purpose, these methods suffer from two drawbacks. First, it is difficult to determine absolute quantification index for the design process. Secondly, these methods could not provide in-time evaluation. To address these problems, this research develops a case-based method for designer’s performance evaluation. Our method compares the performance of current design with that of an old similar design to calculate a relative quantification index instead of absolute index. Besides, our method compares the current design schedule with a standard schedule calculated from past case to determine in-time performance. This thesis discusses details of the proposed method, including representation of cases and schedules, case similarity assessment, standardization of schedule, and calculation of real-time, relative performance.
