Nine food groups are selected in this study, including grain, oil, pork, poultry, aquatic products, eggs, milk and dairy products, vegetables, and fruits. The methodological approach followed in the study is the fixed effect model of panel data. We divide the fixed effect into three parts, including cross-section data, time series data, and both of them. The empirical results show that three types of fixed effect model actually give us more information to analysis. The own-price elasticities of all food are from -1 to 0. This indicates that all foods are consistent with the law of demand and less elastic when food price change. The expenditure elasticities are all positive implying the consumption of these nine foods will increase when the expenditure of people in urban China increases, especially for poultry, aquatic products, milk and dairy products, and fruits.
