Those structures built earlier have reached their replacement age. Since Taiwan is situated in an area of high temperature and rainfall, this causes much faster deterioration of buildings, especially their roofs. The change of building codes after the 921 earthquake has increase the momentum to rehabilitate old building structures. Due to the awareness of environmental protection, the reduction of building wastes has become one of the important topics in construction industry. The rehabilitation of old buildings and the replacement of leaking roofs have produced a lot of waste materials. This research emphasizes on how to adopt a complete environmentally sound construction procedure. By comparing and analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of using the FRP molded panels and hard PS insulation material on roof insulation and waterproof with the traditional construction method. It is hoped that a creative and environmentally sound insulation and waterproof construction method can be developed.
