However, with all the new automotive technologies and well-planned road conditions, the only way to ensure safety is to drive safely. National statistics for 2003 revealed that motor vehicle crashes on categories A1 and A2 in Taiwan-fuchien area, there were 63,646 passenger car crashes being reported, accounted for most incidents, 52.94%, of all motor vehicle types. Among all crashes, there were 411.38 commercial buses, 404.85 commercial passenger cars, 383.99 commercial light trucks, and 253.28 commercial large trucks per ten thousand vehicles crashes being reported. Therefore, it can be concluded that except for not following traffic rules, fatigue from the long drive is also one of the reasons for vehicle crashes. For years, car manufacturers have been trying to design ergonomically fit car seats to provide drivers with better support and comfort. The objective of this study is to investigate and analyze correlation between car seat adjusted positions and the corresponding driver’s comfort levels. The comfort levels of drivers were determined by the measurement of electromyogram (EMG) of subjects’ leg muscle. The data collected were using statiscal analysis to find out the relationship between various car seat adjusted positions and their corresponding degree of comfort, to offer suggestions to vehicle drivers.
