If possible, using the numerical model to simulate can be more efficient and time-saving, and we can also change any parameters to predict any real situations. This study uses FLO-2D model presented by O’Brian to simulate the situation of slit dam when debris flow occurs. This model uses the digital elevation model (DEM) and basic data of the debris flow to simulate the depth, deposit length and volume of the debris flow, then test and verify the result from flume tests. From this study result, when the elevation of the slit dam is imported to the numerical model of FLO-2D and the area reduction factor (ARF) is set, the model can easily simulate the block effect of the slit dam. And after verification, the results of simulation are good in the deposit length and range of debris flow. Therefore, using the numerical model (like FLO-2D) to simulate not only can offer the important information to construct a silt dam, but also prediction of the hazard effect, risk evaluation and escape plan of debris flow management.
