Since the day of its independence, the Indian government has been aggressively endeavored to strive for India''s transformation into a hegemony state. For a country with such distinctly historical and cultural heritages, along with a big population on its large territory, it is natural for India to desire to excerpt its influence, or even dominance upon international affairs. However we understand no goal can be achieved solely by relying on the continuous projection of one''s will. As to determine whether India can become what it desires, we need to draw a clearer picture by analyzing its overall national strength as well as observing the roles it plays in the international affairs. It is clear India already has a strong footing considering its population, natural resources, and terrific location in terms of geopolitical strategy. Today its heated economical growth and rapid development of military powers are in no doubt the major driving forces promoting its international status, while its capacity to influence international affairs can only be increasing. It now seems inevitable that India will be able to achieve its hegemony in the foreseeable future. However, for India to succeed it is not without obstacles. The overgrown populations, multicultural but inharmonic societies, racial conflicts, separationism, and the constant controversies with neighboring countries, are among the negative factors preventing India from furthering its current achievements. By taking into account the major factors which have created essential impacts on the growth of India''s national strength, we can have a better understanding what the real forces are at play along its struggle and behind India''s current situations. Examples are its worsen ecological environments control, the constant conflicts among religions and races, food and water supply shortage, security concerns for routes of oil supply, budget juggling between military expansion and economic development, and so on. Along the road of fulfilling India''s dream of hegemony, these are just a few of the many problems it faces. Before any solution can be found, India must begin to faithfully identify and then learn to deal with the problems willingly. The world has been moving toward multilateralism in the post-cold war era, while India''s current developments has impressed many of the world''s prestigious futurists. No matter whether India can fulfill its self-commitment of becoming one of the leading powers in the future multilateral world, the courses it takes will undoubtedly affect not only Asia''s but the whole world''s future economical and political developments.
