Firstly, the contexts and the main conception of “Tukusei” will be analyzed. Secondly, Dazai’s “Tukusei” will be paralleled with “Liao-Chai-Chih-I”(聊齋誌異) and its Japanese translation versions. Finally, the comparison will be investigated to explicate the method of which Dazai extracted from <quotation>, <critique>,<transformation> to develop his originality work -- “Tukusei”. The thesis consists of introduction, main body, and conclusion. In introduction, the purpose and the method of the research will be explained. In Chapter 1, the references works of “Tukusei” are reorganized and reviewed. In addition, the contents and the main theme <fortune> of “Tukusei” are discussed. In Chapter 2, “Tukusei” and its the original source -- “Liao-Chai-Chih-I” -- is reexamined. The characters of the two different stories are compared. The thesis then puts the emphasis on the conclusion of “Tukusei” in Chapter 3, in order to explore Dazai’s comments of “being a common farmer disappearing in the real world “ and reception of “Liao-Chai-Chih-I” to analyze his consciousness to Chinese Confucian School. Finally, it is concluded that Dazai reserved the Romanticism of “Liao-Chai-Chih-I” with his Confucian consciousness to generate the great work, “Tukusei- Liao-Chai-Chih-I”.
