Jen-Yi Li Abstract This study aims to verify the related research of past female extramarital affairs, such as the motive and development process of extramarital relations, and it goes a step further to explore the couple’s attitudes and follow-up relation process after the exposure of female extramarital affairs and emotional turning points women experienced in the process. Through face-to-face in-depth interviews or on-line discussion, the study collected four women's extramarital affairs experience. The results showed that the occurrence of women’s extramarital affairs conforms to the dynamic process of past research. If the positive attraction of extramarital affairs is stronger than the negative attraction of marriage, and the obstruction to curb extramarital affairs is weak, extramarital affairs will happen. Most female extramarital affairs were indirectly exposed in the process. Their husbands’ responses included emotional responses, violent acts, alcoholism, squandering money, unfaithfulness, and other negative behavior, and the husbands were unwilling to divorce their wives. To sum up, the reasons are as follows: 1. No divorcement symbolizes a display of male power. 2. It is closely linked with a husband’s economy and a woman’s conditions to choose a new spouse. 3. Take account of the reputation. Still, the factors which influence a woman’s decision to go or to stay include a woman’s views of extramarital affairs, the investment depth of extramarital affairs, personal conditions, her lover's attitude, and female self-positioning. The subsequent development of relation is divided into two groups: 1. A woman returned to marriage, but her husband "forgave" his wife is not because personal desire but a need of the relationship. 2. A woman threw herself into a new relationship. Whether staying in the marriage or throwing into a new relationship, women still follow the blueprint of traditional gender values to move on, think highly of and rely on relationship, lack equal rights, and give every effort to play the role being expected. They cannot transcend the level of pursuing emotional attribution and then turn to the life goal of self realization. Also, for lack of a support network, they stick in the stalemate of their relationship, are unable to leave, and only leave the resentment of "regretting having done something."
