Description
Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 音樂研究所 === 94 === Among many of J.S. Bach’s Church Music works, Church Cantatas regardless of quantity or quality play a significant role. The most famous one among them is “Ein’ feste Burg ist unser Gott” (BWV 80), a Cantata written by Bach for the Feast of the Reformation Day. Not only did it adapt to the times and provide valuable reference but also become a model which was imitated by many other composers of decades thereafter. In this thesis, the Cantata BWV 80 serves as the focal example of my main research. To begin with, I attempt to explore Martin Luther’s Reformation in 16th century and the background of contemporary religion music revolu- tion in the historical context;furthermore, analyzing the development and characteristic of Bach’s Church Cantata and realize the occasion and manner of its usage and status in the church liturgical service. Moreover, the thesis includes an in-depth research on Bach’s Cantata 80 which is adopted from Martin Luther’s eminent Chorale “Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott”; respectively investigate, analyze and discuss many aspects of this work further, from the background of composition and Chorale subject matter, version documentation, music analysis to the relationship between music and lyric. It will also discuss how Bach devotes himself to demonstrate his wisdom by means of his act which reflects honor upon God with singing his devotion out loud toward God and gathering all the congregations’ attention toward doctrine, church and praising God together. Meanwhile, I will investigate the historical status, significance and influence on later musicians of Cantata BWV 80. At last, a conclusion about the research of my thesis will be included. There are relatively few researches on Bach’s Church Cantata at present time in Taiwan. Hopefully, through the research and discussion of this thesis, I will apropos portray some of the diverse forms of Bach’s Church Music and I would like to share the outcome with anyone who is interested in this subject.
