This research also tries to examine the relevance between learning involvement and learning achievement, and proposes suggestions according to the research results, which could be references for the scout groups of Tao-yang County, their leaders or anyone who would like to do further studies. The required information needed in this research was collected through questionnaire survey and test paper. The questionnaire of “self-evaluation of motivation of junior high school student participating scout group, learning involvement and learning achievement in scout group” was edited according to the research purpose, questions-to-be-answer and literature. The survey took the 377 scouts in the scout groups in 21 public and private junior high schools and 2 communities as the population. The collected data was analyzed with mean, standard deviation, t-test, One-way ANOVA, post-comparison, chi-square test and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation, and got the following conclusions: I. The status quo of junior high school students’ motivation in participating scout groups, and their learning involvement and learning achievement 1) There was not much difference between the ratios of boys and girls joining scout groups. Most of the participants were grade 7 or grade 8 students, and were in primary or middle level with less than 3 years training. They almost all belonged to school scout groups. 2) The motivations for Grade 8 students to join scout groups were sequentially: learning life skills, experiencing wild life, for fun, broadening view, self-growing and knowing more friends. 3) The tendency of the performance of learning involvement for junior high school students participating scout activities was “good”. 4) The overall learning achievements could reach the standard; and among them, group living got the highest score. II. The differences of learning involvement and learning achievement between scout students of different backgrounds 1) The difference of learning involvement a. Girls’ learning involvement was superior to boys’ in general. b. Grade 9 students had better performance than Grade 7 and Grade 8 in striving for personal and group honor. c. High level scouts had better performance than primary and middle level scouts in learning involvement. d. Scouts with more than three years training had better performance than those less than one year training scouts in learning involvement. 2) The difference of learning achievement a. Girls’ learning achievement was superior to boys’ in general. b. Grade 9 students had better performance than Grade 7 and Grade 8 in learning achievement. c. High level scouts had better performance than primary and middle level scouts in learning achievement grades. d. Scouts with more than three years training had better performance than those less than one year training scouts in learning achievement. III. The relevance between learning involvement and learning achievement in scout groups for junior high school scout students Overall speaking, there was a positive correlation between learning involvement and learning achievement. Among them, the learning achievement of “group living” showed the most prominent correlation with learning involvement. Suggestions were proposed as following according to the researching outcomes as the references for the scout groups of Tao-yang County, their leaders or anyone who would like to do further studies: 1) Suggestions for the scout groups of Tao-yang County a. Enhancing the consulting system of scout groups b. Holding more skill tests c. Integrating multiple-theme educational activities 2) Suggestions for the leaders of scout groups a. Improving the methods for attracting learning involvement b. Breaking the myth of sex discrimination of team leader c. Holding the oath-taking ceremony and promotion test periodically d. Making strategies for promoting scout groups and seeking the support of school, community and parents e. Giving responsibilities to cadre members effectively to upgrade overall learning effectiveness 3) Suggestions for further studies a) Expanding the range of research, studying more example b) Probing in different variables Key words: scout, scout activities, learning involvement, motivation, learning achievement
