Summary: | 碩士 === 華梵大學 === 工業工程與經營資訊學系碩士班 === 94 === The industry of beauty shops and hairdressing salons is booming and lots of workers join in this industry. This industry has many hazards these include, hazardous chemicals and substances, risk of infection, dermatitis and Occupational Overuse. Due to the physical demands of their work, poorly designed tools and awkward workplace design, hair stylists and barbers are at high risk of musculoskeletal disorder in wrist and hand, shoulder, and neck and back areas. For easing the upper extremities’ musculoskeletal problem, three improved hair dryers, have been proposed. Two of the three improved hair dryers were with cylindrical format which allowed hair stylist to grasp it to perform the styling tasks. One of the cylindrical hair dryers was with a fixed comb. The other was not. The third improved one was similar to the treaditional type, pistol type, but with a fixed comb. The objectives of this study aimed to evaluate the effect of the hair-dryers design include three improved and treaditional hair dryers on NEMG of extremities’ muscles (flexor digitorum superficialis, flexor carpi radialis, flexor carpi ulnaris, brachioradialis, middle deltoid and trapezius), wrist posture(radial/ulnar and flexion/extension deviation), elbow posture, shoulder posture (flexion and abduction deviation), RPE and subject’s preference. Ten female from hairdressing salons were recruited. In experiment, each of ten subjects was asked to perform eight trials type of 4 hair dryers×2 hair styles(long and short). The results of this study indicated that applying the hair dryer with cylinder handle induces lower NEMG in flexor digitorum superficialis, flexor carpi ulnaris, middle deltoid and trapezius. Furthermore, cylinder handle induces lower hazardous posture in wrist radial, elbow flexion and shoulder abduction deviation. But the preference of the hair dryer with cylinder handle was worse than that of the traditional hair dryer.
