The present study was aimed at examining the effect of using multimedia on training young and older adults in learning medical knowledge. Sixteenth subjects, eight older adults and eight young college students participated in an experiment where information media and feedback were manipulated as independent variables. Training performance was evaluated by rote memorization and comprehension of the trained material. A mixed factorial design was employed where age and feedback were design as a between factor, and multimedia presentation as a within-subject factor, respectively. Multimedia was defined by pure text, static picture with text, animation, while feedback was defined by immediate and delayed explanations. The result indicated a significant effect between two age groups, and significant effect between three kinds of multimedia for the performance measures. In particular, the interaction between age and multimedia was significant for both rote memorization and comprehension of trained material, with animation presentation resulting in the strongest effect for the older subject. The interaction between feedback and multimedia was also significant for comprehension, where immediate feedback and animation produced the most differentiated performance when the young subject was trained. Further implications of the design of multimedia learning interface and the dual-code theory for the elderly were also discussed. Dyi-Yih Michael Lin 林迪意 2005 學位論文 ; thesis 77 zh-TW |
