Abstract
Taiwanese semiconductor industry meets unprecedented challenges from both China and South Korea in recent years. The former joins the battle ground with their low price advantage; the latter has the IDM players, such as Samsung, aggressively developing their semiconductor techniques. It is therefore very critical for our semiconductor industry to faces the change of tides to maintain our competitive advantages.
This research evaluates the management operation performance of Taiwanese IC design, manufacture, packaging and testing industries. We first apply the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method to quantitatively compare the performance among Taiwanese semiconductor companies. Recommendations to improve their performance are given based on the analysis results. The Malmquist analysis method is also applied to measure the efficiency of every company in different periods of time. This approach builds the cross-periods DEA model. The results are then analyzed by the Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) and the Analytic Hierarchy Process methods to find the best performance companies.
