Cross-shaped specimen was made to simulate an RC beam-column joint. The major experiment variables includes strength enhancement, applied load, precracked level, plate types, plate thickness, stiffened devices. Load-deflection curves, load-strain relationships were measured to investigate the strength capacity, stiffness decay behavior, energy absorption performance and composite action of retrofitted beams. An analytical approach was developed to estimate the ultimate strength and moment-curvature relationship of strengthened beams. And an evaluation model was also proposed in this research to detect the effectiveness of a repaired beam. The experimental result indicates that the failure behavior occurred between steel plates and concrete interface is the major governing factor of the strengthening work. All those specimens purely attached steel plates on web sides behaved brittle failure mode.
