Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中興大學 === 獸醫學系 === 93 === Mitral regurgitation (MR) is the most common cardiovascular disease in dogs. Older dogs and small breeds have the highest incidence of the disease. Therefore how to rapidly diagnose and evaluate the degree of mitral regurgitation are important to choose medicine and degree of prognosis for veterinary clinical. Echocardiography is one of useful physiological diagnostic tools for cardiovascular disease, because it has been employed as a convenient and noninvasive method. In human being, assessment of left ventricular function is usually to evaluate cardiac function. Left ventricular systolic function is decided by some parameters including left ventricular diastolic diameter, left ventricular systolic diameter, left ventricular end-diastolic volume (EDV), left ventricular end-systolic volume (ESV), stroke volume (SV), cardiac output (CO), fractional shortening (FS) and ejection fraction (EF). We collected 115 cardiovascular diseases and most were Maltese, with mitral regurgitation. This study was planned to evaluate left ventricular function by echocardiography in 44 Maltese with MR (Female=30, Male=14 Age= 9.24±1.99yrs) and 19 normal Maltese (Female=6, Male=13, Age=5.04±3.22 yrs). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the severity of MR by left ventricular function with different echocardiographic methods, and compared with the results of modified New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional classification scheme. Maltese with MR had a significant (p<0.05) higher FS and EF than healthy controls. Each of Maltese with MR had a significant (p<0.01) higher EDV, SV and CO than healthy controls. The best correlation was obtained by Teichholz formulas in short axis of M-mode echocardiogram. In this study, echocardiographic values were obtained from M-mode echocardiogram in the population of healthy Maltese. We concluded that the ability of parameter obtained by echocardiography could contribute to evaluate cardiovascular disease.
