| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立暨南國際大學 === 東南亞研究所 === 93 === Western scholars have observed that the emergence of gay subculture has become an overwhelming tendency. A number of researches have also argued that some social transformations provide different opportunities for sexual minorities. These influences include：transformation of political structure, industrialization, urbanization, rising of wealth and communication technology. In the 1990’s, gay studies of the western culture have started emphasizing the research of「Political of Difference」. These researches have already concentrated on the different perspectives, such as nation, race, and specific class situations.
To date, discussions of gay studies in Singapore have focused on the attitude of Singaporeans toward homosexuality, self-identity of individual gay and the connection of gay by the Internet. Singapore is an advanced economic and international state; however, Singapore has still outlawed homosexuality and enacted policy to prohibit gay rights up to now. Therefore, as far as I am concerned, the reasons and characteristics on the development of gay rights in Singapore differ with other modern states. In summary, the purpose of this thesis argues that the omnipresent paternalism of political culture in Singapore, includes, political elite enforce the management of paternalism, and emphasizes the conceptions of pro-family and anti-individualism of Asian value, both are Singapore’s political characteristics profound in the influence of the development of gay rights and gay position in Singapore.
