A Study on Factors Relating to Group Training of Elementary School Athletic Teams in Miaoli County

碩士 === 國立體育學院 === 體育研究所 === 93 === This study aimed at understanding the current status of training of elementary school athletic teams in Miaoli County, and survey results were analyzed. A hundred and eighteen national elementary schools in Miaoli County were the object of this survey. Research results were as follows: There were 24 types of athletic teams, with the track-and-field team most prevalent; there were more male coaches than female coaches, and more male athletes than female athletes. In terms of human resources: establishment of athletic teams was mostly due to the existence of good teachers or coaches; source of coaches was mostly teachers volunteering themselves; incentive for coaches was mostly verbal praise; budget most usually come from the school’s own allocation of funds; incentive for athletes was mostly in the form of certificate; most coaches had no reduction of teaching hours; training of athletes was mostly uncompensated; selection of athletes was mostly based on interest; selection of athletes was mostly by teacher’s recommendation of students; class grouping of athletes was mostly scattered in different classes. In terms of training and counseling: most teams had a morning self-training session; most teams had one to two hours’ training per day; most athletic teams had intensive training during summer or winter vacation; there was usually no training on holiday; venue for training was mostly within the schools; training equipment was mostly acquired with the school’s special grants; most schools had set down training plans; most schools had arranged homework counseling; most schools had not arranged life counseling; academic counseling for athletes was mostly based on the athletes’ decision. Factors obstructing group training: most frequently mentioned factor that affected the establishment of athletic team was parents’ opposition; most teachers held supportive attitude; most schools had not allocated budget; most schools had not established a support group; most drop-out athletes retired from the training because of parents’ opposition
