Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立交通大學 === 經營管理研究所 === 93 === ABSTRACT This thesis studies twenty-seven listed or OTC biotech firms in Taiwan during the period from 1998 to 2003. These biotech firms are categorized into biotech-medical, biotech-instrument, and biotech-food firms. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is used to measure the productivity and efficiency of these biotech firms. The regression method then is used to estimate the effects of technical and efficiency growth rates on the sales revenue growth rate. Our major empirical results are as follows: (1) Most of the biotech firms were at increasing-returns-to-scale (IRS) stage of production during the research period. (2) Technical efficiency of these biotech firms improved year by year. (3) Accumulative technical growth rate of biotech-instrument firms was growing but that of biotech-food firms was falling. (4) Biotech-medical firms’ sales growth was mainly due to technical growth. (5) Biotech-instrument and biotech-food firms’ sales growth was mainly due to technical and efficiency growths.
