The purpose of this research is to understand the life problems Chinese students from overseas get into in Taiwan. Furthermore, the coping strategies they take and the details about their life adjustment will also be discussed. With the adoption of sociological questionnaire, the guidance of semi-structured interviews and expert scales, a test scale is compiled up. This test scale probes into the life problems and coping strategies Chinese students from overseas face in Taiwan and constructs the concrete image about the way how those students adjust their life. Finally, according to the research result and discussions, relevant suggestions will be offered.
Selecting nationwide 644 Chinese students from overseas, who have enrolled in the 93rd academic year in 12 national and private universities, this research looks into the life problems these students get into in Taiwan and the coping strategies and life adjustment they undertake.
The main findings of this research are as followed:
1. To Chinese students from overseas in different background variants (gender, grade of year, academic achievements), there are significant discrepancies in life problems.
2. To Chinese students from overseas in different background variants (gender, grade of year, academic achievements), there are significant discrepancies in the use of coping strategies.
3. To Chinese students from overseas in different background variants (gender, grade of year, academic achievements), there are significant discrepancies in life adjustment.
4. To Chinese students from overseas, there is a significant relation between life problems and the use of coping strategies.
5. To Chinese students from overseas, the life problems and the use of coping strategies reveal a significant predictability towards life adjustment.
On the basis of the preceding findings, plus with discussions, this research offers suggestions to Chinese students from overseas, schools, education directors in overseas Chinese students education and the subsequent research.
