But it is a long-term and self-care treatment that helps maintain the patients’ electrolyte balance and control their blood pressure. In comparison to hemodialysis, the psycho-social status and quality of life of peritoneal dialysis patients are better . More and more ESRD patients have chosen peritoneal dialysis as their therapeutic modality in recently years. In the published literatures, few studies have focused on the needs of home care after discharged peritoneal dialysis patients. Therefore, the main purpose of this study was to explore the home care needs for peritoneal dialysis patients and the related factors. This study was conducted in a cross-sectional design and used the structured questionnaires. A total of 100 subjects who received peritoneal dialysis at home and had regular follow-up in a medical center in Taipei, Taiwan are collected. The data was analyzed by SPSS for window 13.0. The major results of this study were as follows: 1. Peritoneal dialysis patients had lower level of symptomatic distress, in which the most distressed symptoms were itch, easy fatigue, and sleepless. 2. The whole care needs for peritoneal dialysis patients were in low to moderate level. The ranks of needs in order were psycho-social, physiological, and information needs. The satisfaction rate of the whole care needs was up to 74.13%. 3. There were no significant differences among gender, educational level, marital status, occupation and income source in the level of care needs and the rate of satisfaction. 4. No significant variable of subjects' underlying diseases was correlated with the level of care needs. 5. The levels of symptomatic distress had no relationship with the level of care needs. The findings of this study can help the nurses who take care of the peritoneal dialysis patients to realize what they need. Besides, this study showed the satisfaction rate of information needs was low. Carefully assessing patients’ demographic information and understanding what their real needs in different stages of ESRD are the nurses’ major responsibilities. This information is also as the reference to modify the patients’care needs. Shi Shu Feng 徐淑芬 2005 學位論文 ; thesis 122 zh-TW
