Summary: | 碩士 === 國立新竹教育大學 === 特殊教育學系碩士班 === 93 === The main purpose of this study is to explore how mothers affect children’s language development in phonological and other language abilities. Moreover, this study also compares language developments between native Taiwanese mothers and immigrant mothers. The methodology of this study combines survey research and comparative research method. First of all, the subjects of study are 30 pairs of children; one native Taiwanese child is paired with one Vietnamese or Indonesian child. Every pair has similar backgrounds such as gender, age, SES level, intelligence, same language used, and preschool experience in this study. We conduct four tasks in order to get subjects’ data in their language abilities. Four tasks are as follows: Test of Nonverbal intelligence (TONI-2), Test of Language Comprehension developed (Lin and Chi 1999a), Oral Express Ability Test for Children (OEATC) developed (Chen, 1993), and self-designed Analysis Form of Phonological Abilities. All analyses are based on descriptive statistics, T-test, one-way ANOVA. The major findings are: (1) the oral performance of subjects in our task is worse than those of other children of the norm age. (2) There are no major difference in all aspects of language performances between native Taiwanese mothers’ children and immigrant mothers’ children, only in the syntax comprehension set of the Test of Language Comprehension, we saw that immigrant mothers’ children are not as good as native Taiwanese mothers’ children. (3) Indonesian mothers’ children and native Taiwanese mothers’ children pronounce better in vowels than Vietnamese mothers’ children do.
