Lee Ming Lang Abstract The study employs a qualitative research method to explore the female elementary school teachers’ decision on early retirement, taking the cases in Hsinchu City as examples. The participants are three female elementary school teachers who have retired for more than two years. In-depth interview, a qualitative research method, is used in data collecting. While using open-coding in data analysis, the meaningful units are rearranged through induction and then transcribed into a written script. The study discovers the following: 1. The decision elements that affect the participants’ preference in early retirement include their work, their families, their health, their self-demanding, their family support, their economical decision, their possible life after retirement, and the environment. 2. When the educational environment changes, the impacts on different participant are different. 3. How they think and how they feel change during their process in making the early retirement decision. 4. How they think and how they feel change during their after retirement adaptation. 5. In their after retirement adaptation, they discover adaptation strategy. 6. In their process in making the early retirement decision and in their after retirement adaptation, there is a close relation between they and their families. 7. After retirement, how they think and how they feel, and the process and result of their adaptation are positive. Finally, this study offers some suggestions for the elementary school teachers who are making early retirement decisions, the retired teachers on their adaptation, the government on her policies, and the future study. 施 香 如 博 士 2005 學位論文 ; thesis 119 zh-TW
