Summary:碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 化學系 === 93 === Chrial dialcohols are frequently used as the precursors in the synthesis of natural products. The carboxylic acid ethyl ester with a protectedα–hydroxy group such as OH-protected ethyl –(S) -lactate and (R) -mandelic acid ethyl ester can be reduced to the corresponding alcohol in the presence of LiAlH4. We have found that OH-protected (S ) -lactate can be reduced to the corresponding alcohol in the presence of NaBH4. The reduction of thess esters with the reducing agent NaBH4 is still not known in the literature. In order to study the influence of the structure on the efficiency of NaBH4, two series of esters were synthesized. They can be reduced to the corresponding alcohols smoothly. The yields of the alcohols for the series one are 80~96%, and series two are 71% and 39%.
