The author has invited four retired female elementary teachers for deep interviews to collect data and used narrative analysis to describe the stories and sort out the data systematically. The results indicated that the retirement process of interviewees could be divided into four stages: 1) initial stage---the interviewee decides to retire; 2) exploring stage---she has to confront the problem of retirement; 3) adjusting stage---to find her place after retirement; 4) reconstructing stage---she would settle down her psychosomatic situation. The process would also be inter-influenced by personal, family and social factors. In the beginning, they might feel lost, not knowing what to do, but afterward they would adapt themselves to the lifestyle of retirement, such as just stay at home, or take part in social activities, in the meanwhile they would feel the impending seniority and think out some resolutions for it. The interviewees also agreed could they attend any social services, it would amplify their life value; as to whether they need lay out the retirement or not, it’s an open question, but they all feel the most important thing in the future and nowadays is to keep fit, hoping that would facilitate them to take care of themselves and not to depend on children. According to the data, the research also found that the themes of gender ideology impact those retired women include: 1) being full-hearted for coming back to family life,2) without laying out the retirement life, 3) being not able to lay down the parental responsibility, and 4) hoping to enjoy a harmony life with their husbands after retired. And the themes of seniority concepts that impact include: 1) they feel old and seldom could they redevelop, so they don’t lay out the retirement, but reckon on the flourishing development of their children; on another hand, under the inter-influence of gender and seniority concepts, they also anticipate their physical strength would go down and down, so they should change their lifestyle so as not to be a burden to children, and hoping to turn round to tranquil family life. In the end, the author would illustrate the limitation of this study, and weigh up the conclusions of this paper to offer some suggestions for the governmental policy, the practice of relevant consultation, retired women with marriage and future study. 羅文基  2005 學位論文 ; thesis 314 zh-TW
