There are four objectives set to serve as guidelines for this research. (1) To understand the status quo of the backgrounds of museum’s volunteers, motivations for participation and the degree of work satisfaction. (2) To study the factors that influence museum volunteers’ motivations for participation. (3) To study the factors that influence museum volunteers’ degree of work satisfaction. (4) To discuss the relations between museum volunteers’ motivations for participation and the degree of work satisfaction. The questionnaire is the main method for this research. First, a total of 256 copies of the questionnaire were sent to the volunteers serving in the Kaohsiung Museum of History. Then, the questionnaires were filled out and returned 221 copies that were valid. Data from the valid questionnaires were analyzed through several statistical techniques such as t-test, Pearson product-moment correlation and one-way analysis of variance. Finally, I submitted some findings of this research are as follows: (1) The background of each museum volunteer shows a great amount of similarities with one another. (2) Museum volunteers commonly have strong motivations for participation. (3) Museum volunteers show fairly high degrees of work satisfaction. (4) Museum volunteers’ motivations for participation are not affected by the factors of gender, age, educational level, the number of years of service and the experience of being a volunteer. (5) Museum volunteers’ motivations for participation partially differentiate from one another due to the factors of occupation and the intention of resignation. (6) Museum volunteers’ motivations for participation partially differentiate from one another due to the factors of marriage and residency. (7) Museum volunteers’ degrees of work satisfaction are not affected by the factors of gender, age, marriage, educational level, occupation, and the intention of resignation. (8) Museum volunteers’ degrees of work satisfaction partially differentiate from one another due to the number of years of service and the experience of being a volunteer. (9) A close correlation is found between museum volunteers’ motivations for participation and the degree of work satisfaction. (10) Obviously, we can anticipate museum volunteers’ degrees of work satisfaction through motivations for participation.
