The purposes of this study were to analyze the Grade 1-9 Curriculum Guidelines, the theory and practice of Visual Arts education for children, and the current situations of using the resources of the Arts Museum for Arts education in Kaohsiung Municipal Jia-chang Elementary School. Questionnaires and interviews were used in this study. The current situations of using the resources of the Arts Museum in the primary school of Kaohsiung, the teachers’ responses to their schools’ using the resources of the Arts Museum for Arts education and the cooperation between schools and the Arts Museum were explored in order to examine the possibility of using the resources of the Arts Museum for Visual Arts instruction, and to offer suggestions for Arts and Humanities instruction in the primary school of Kaohsiung. The results of this study are summarized as follows: 1. Most primary schools in Kaohsiung had used the resources of the Arts Museum for Visual Arts instruction. Taking a field trip to the Arts Museum was the primary way of using the resources. Inviting the personnel of the Arts Museum for a speech, attending to the workshops or speeches held by the Arts Museum and using the resources classrooms in the Arts museum were the secondary ways of using the resources. 2. The cooperation between primary schools of Kaohsiung and the Arts Museum in promoting Arts education was still in its infancy. The cooperation focused mainly on schools using the resources of the Arts Museum. 3. For schools and the Arts Museum to promote Arts education, most primary teachers in Kaohsiung thought that financial problems needed to be solved. Besides, the content of exhibition and the space and equipment of school were also needed to be put into consideration. 4. The difficulty for primary schools of Kaohsiung to use the resources of the Arts Museum was mainly due to the lack of expenditure, space and equipment and manpower. If these problems could be solved, teachers were willing to cooperate with the Arts Museum in promoting Visual Arts education. This study can serve as a reference for primary schools that are going to use the resources of the Arts Museum for Arts education and a reference for the cooperation between primary schools and the Arts Museum in promoting Arts Education.
