Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 教育經營與管理研究所 === 93 === Animations are some of the forms of media entertainment among the favorites of children and teenagers. In imaginary worlds constructed with lines and curves, animations profoundly reflect the attributes and value concepts of various cultures. In this study, the researcher conducts a cross-cultural analysis using Animated Tales of the World (with twenty-six episodes containing stories illustrating twenty-two different countries, including Taiwan), produced by Public Television, to examine the morals, characterization, gender relation, intergenerational relationships, and culture differences in animations. Consequently, the researcher discovers that various aspects of animations; such as the subject matters, value concept, characters, and backgrounds; are all affected by various existing cultures. In turn, they present a range of cultural environments, reflecting the difference and facets among the cultures and showing the diversified value concepts within each culture. The central theme revolves around personal values such as wisdom and courage; through plots that demonstrate antagonism and self-growth, storytellers attempt to convey those positive value concepts to their audience. In each story, characterization differs according to the two genders and the role each character plays. Moreover, we can observe; in terms of the attitudes toward career placement, love, marriage, and in coming face to face with human desires; certain stereotypes in gender relation can contribute to the downfall of either of the sexes. For example, in intergenerational relationships, some stories portray parents having different expectations of their children in respect to their children’s gender. At the same time, such story also depicts the role of dysfunctional parents.
