A researcher self-designed questionnaire titled “The Current Situation of Elementary Athletic Teams and the Consideration Factors in Operation” was used to collect data, and to investigate by mailing. The subjects of this study were chiefs of physical education in Taipei City. Distributing 111 questionnaires, 75 questionnaires were returned and 74 questionnaires were valid. The valid rate was 66.7%. The important conclusions of this study were as follows: 1. The Current Situation of Elementary Athletic Teams in Taipei Elementary athletic teams in Taipei were set up mainly by traditional teams of a school. 55.2% teams planned the training schedules, 80% teams had ever got reward in contests in last year. Besides, 81.9% teams could provide the funding supports of needed resources for athletic teams. 2. The Consideration Factors in Operation for Athletic Directors: (1)For athletic directors, consideration factors in operating athletic teams were, in a descending importance order, athletes’ conditions, resources for operation, effectiveness in sport promotion, group identification, and athlete cultivation. (2)The recognition level for different background of athletic directors on consideration factors in operation was as follows: a. all the recognition levels for the female were significantly higher than those for the male. b. Among three consideration factors that were age, seniority of service, and seniority on current position of athletic directors, there was no significant difference in athletic directors’ recognition level on every consideration factor in operation of athletic teams. c. The recognition level on “resources for operation” for athletic directors without coaching positions was significantly higher than athletic directors with coaching positions. However, there was no significant difference for chiefs’ recognition level on every consideration factor in operation of athletic teams. d. In athletic directors’ recognition level of consideration factors in operation of athletic teams, there was no difference among different scale of schools, athletic directors that had and did not have a sport/physical education relevant department, and athletic directors at schools that with or without full-time coaches assigned by the government. The suggestions of the study were following: 1. Schools should choose the athletic teams that were suitable for self-development, and develop the teams to become traditional teams with schools of characteristics. 2. There were differences on characteristics and opinions between the males and the females. In the future, studies could be deeply searched on gender differences. Key words: Athletic teams, Operation.
