Extending the spirit of “The May Fourth Movement”, it plays an important role in popularizing the use of mandarin, education of language, and promotion of children’s literature. The history of it could be viewed as the epitome of children’s culture in Taiwan. Mandarin Daily News is one of the most important stages for the writers of children’s literature in Taiwan and has cultivated many successful writers. Furthermore, its own children’s literature award, “Reed Pipe”, is the most crucial one. It is not overstatement that its development greatly affects the development of children’s literature in Taiwan. For this reason, to take down the history of Mandarin Daily News, is a mission of great urgency—to preserve valuable record not only for this unique newspaper business, but also for history of children’s literature. This thesis is carried out based on the demand stated above. With extensively collected, elaborately codified data, it is hoped that the thesis could demonstrate the splendid achievement of Mandarin Daily News to readers. Moreover, by researching the development of Mandarin Daily News, we can get a much understanding of the reciprocal effect between children’s literature and culture after “The May Fourth Movement”.
