Moreover, its structural type is different from today’s mainstream steel or reinforced concrete structures. Due to the unfamiliarity with characteristics of earthquake damage to the Quadrangle House, there is currently no way to apply quantitative analysis. Therefore, this thesis uses the results from the investigation of the 9/21 destruction sites to apply quantitative analysis, to see the damage characteristics this type of structure depicts in actual earthquakes. In doing so, this thesis would also provide useful data, reference, and directions for further quantitative analysis. This thesis is concerned with investigation and analysis, and is divided into three sections: 1. To clarify aspects of the combined specificity of the quadrangle house: This is done by researching related literatures and studying the application of the quadrangle house’s plane organization, structural formation, and material to understand the types of compound relationship formed under different architecture levels. 2. Returning to the destruction sites to conduct complete investigation records: This is done to collect background information on individual subjects, including: location, age of buildings, plane correlation, structural system, material distribution, and earthquake data etc. The effects on different parts of the house are also recorded to observe the actual damages on the earthquake sites. 3. Analyze the specific damage characteristics based on different conditions of damage: The data collected, supplemented by the earthquake reports, would be used to learn the overall damage to the structure’s body and determine the relationship between different damage conditions to understand the characteristics of earthquake damages for the quadrangle house. From the above research and analysis, results suggests that the quadrangle house, affected by its traditional structural formation and use of mixed structures and materials, can sustain either basic structural damage or damage due to connection problems. Furthermore, other complex damages may extend from these two general types of damage. Research also shows that these damages may interact and exert mutual influence. In particular, from the damages to the load-bearing wall, one can see that the collapse of the wall structure is not only due to in-plane and out-of-plane damage but they also interact with each other differently. The in-plane requires mutual connection, while the out-of-plane can independently cause the collapse of the wall structure. Wang, Huey-Jiun 王惠君 2004 學位論文 ; thesis 207 zh-TW
