The increasing demand for higher mobility and flexibility from existing network technology also causes a rapid growth in both technology and services in the wireless communication industry. This research presents an analysis of the industry in Taiwan, including its current situation, competitive factors and tendency. Data collection was conducted through interviews with experts and review of related papers. Tools of Value-Net and SWOT are adopted for in-depth analysis of potential competitive advantages. Opportunities as well threats of the industry are pinned out. In our conclusion, four development strategies: attack, learn, defend and retreat, are suggested. As research indicates, we should invest in technology development for crucial components in order to meet the growing need of wireless communication and compete with other developed countries. Meanwhile, integration of upper, middle and lower streams of the industry is imminent for us to complete the supply chain of the whole industry. The cost can be thus reduced and more competitive. Entrepreneurs should struggle to turn the role of OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) into ODM (Original Development Manufacturer) or OBM (Original Brand Manufacturer). Profit can be increased once brand names and market network of our own are established. Moreover, with the excellent manufacturing capabilities and large global share of handsets and WLAN equipment, integrated services (wired/wireless network) and development of related end products are the market worth fighting for. Efforts in this direction will help change our status from follower into innovator and leader in wireless communication industry. Wu, Tzong-Chen 吳宗成 2005 學位論文 ; thesis 84 zh-TW
