Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣科技大學 === 電子工程系 === 93 === The conventional digital temperature sensors usually utilize voltage or current analog-to-digital converters (ADC) for digital code conversion. The resolution of the conventional digital temperature sensors is improved if the number of the ADC output bits is increased. However, the increment of the ADC output bits costs more chip area and power consumption. Different from the conventional digital temperature sensors, cyclic time-to-digital converter (TDC) is utilized in this thesis for digital code conversion. Besides, we combine cyclic TDC and the proposed temperature sensor (temperature to time converter) to form a brand new digital temperature sensor. The proposed temperature sensor can generate a width-variable output pulse based on the temperature variation. The pulse generated is then converted by the cyclic TDC into digital code. Within measurement range from -40℃ to 70℃, the proposed digital temperature sensor achieves a resolution better than 0.2℃. Because of the small chip area and power consumption, the proposed digital temperature sensor has a great potential in market.
