The thesis first derives the mathematical model for the permanent magnet dc brushless motor and then uses MATLAB Simulink to establish the motor simulatior programs. Applying the designated three-phase voltage commands to the motor simulator modules, various physical phenomena, such as three-phase stator voltages, back electromagnetic forces (BEMF), and currents can be obtained and analyzed. The thesis further investigates the establishment of the simulation programs to detect the back EMFs and to obtain the estimated rotor position for speed control. Lastly, the thesis gives a comparison of the simulation results with the experimental results obtained from a DSP-FPGA system. The comparison results show that the proposed simulation system can accommodate the development of the hardware system and provide an effective computer-aided design tool.
