The subject is selected from the female student group who is career undecided. The purpose of this thesis is to explore their mother-daughter relationship according to their life stories. Furthermore their stories are understood through the theory of Self in Relation. 1.The self of career undecided female student in mother-daughter relationship According to different life stories from Amy’s and Shing-zi’s, the different 「self」are emerged from their mother-daughter relationship. There are five relational issues in Amy’s story:happiness, struggle, choice, intimate and insight in the relationship. In Shing-zi’s story, there are six issues which include helpless, conflict, choice, Intimate and comfortable to be self. 2.The theory of self in relation vs. the self of two career undecided female student in mother-daughter relationship In the development of mother-daughter relationship, the emotional bound is the main nutrition toward self. Others are mutual empathy, empowerment. The cuticle element of a successful relational development is the capability of empathy. During the process of learning empathy, there will be cognitive simulating in order to minimize the frustrating feeling of defeat. 3.The self emerged from the stories of Amy’s and Shing-zi’s According to the result, mother-daughter relationship could decrease the anxiety in subject’s career seeking process and the anxiety of separating and uncertainty therefore are more likely to build a positive self-image and self-value. 4.The different aperients of self in Amy’s and Shing-zi’s stories In this part, there are two different prospects in discussing the mother-daughter relationship of career undecided student. These two aspects include different voice and different explanation. If a career undecided female student can speak and assertive for herself, it means that she finds her identity in the relationship. In the contrast, it means she does not find her identity in the relationship. In the different explanation, the identity in the relationship will change by time through self-awareness and the cognition change. 5.The other influential factors in career undecided female student’s mother- daughter relationship According to the thesis, there are three dimensions, which influence the self in relation such as the different family structure, the mother’s different attitude towards daughter and different development stage. The different family structure could change the intensity of need in emotional bound. Mother’s attitude towards daughter could influence the development of daughter’s empathy.
