Description
Summary:碩士 === 靜宜大學 === 資訊管理學系研究所 === 93 === With the rapid growth of Internet and computer techniques, some new applications demand greater functionality than what either TCP or UDP can offer. Future applications might require even more. To extend transport layer functionality, the Internet Engineering Task Force proposed the stream control transmission protocol (SCTP) as a proposed standard in October 2000. SCTP supports multi-homing that enables an SCTP host to switch between different networks while keeping ongoing data communications. However SCTP uses multi-homing for redundancy purposes only currently. It takes long time to perform handover and makes the throughput decreased. Especially, this is not acceptable in multimedia applications. In this thesis, we propose three SCTP handover schemes that select the better path based on end-to-end delay. By using a better path, we can achieve a higher performance than the original SCTP scheme. Finally, we evaluate our approach and SCTP in network simulator, NS-2.
