| Summary: | 碩士 === 東吳大學 === 中國文學系 === 93 === The Political instability during the Southern and Northern Dynasties forced those literati to abandon the ideas of applying the literature to the society for practical applications, and this, on the contrary provided an open opportunity of an independent development for the pure literature. The literature of Southern Dynasties inherited the consolidation of Poetry and Fu from precedent Chin and Han dynasties, and led the way for frontiers of late style poetry and the movement of the new literature beyond subsequent Tang and Song dynasties, thus it essentially held the pivotal position.
The primary contents of the literature of Southern Dynasties that invite most attentions are Mystique, Scenery, and Court Style; among these the Court Style literature was most capable of presenting the feminizing tender and glamorous literature fashion of the Southern Dynasties. What so called “Court Style article” is in contrast to “Court Style poetry”, generally it has those innovating variation, light glamour, and so forth characteristics of the Court Style; additionally it creates new intensions, and describes tiny matters with deliberatively exquisite rhetoric in a soft tone; with that it forms the lightly glamorous and feminizing tender literature fashion. Any articles created with presenting methods of this fashion all belong to the Court Style article.
This essay consists of seven chapters. The first chapter is the background. The second chapter defines the boundary of the meaning of the Court Style article of Southern Dynasties and explores the forming factors of the Court Style literature fashion. The third chapter describes the development situation of the Court Style article in four stages, besides for each stage it probes accordingly and refers to relevant representative writers and their writings. Chapter four induces the contents of the Court Style article. It sorts vary literatures which contains the character of the Court Style, and analyzes them in accordance. Chapter five anatomizes characteristics of the Court Style article, plus from subject, context, skill, and style aspects it discusses them in further details. Chapter six examines the influence of the Court Style article on the literature of later generations. The last chapter serves as the conclusion, from the pivotal background of the Court Style article fashion and the way they were written in articles, it reviews and concludes this study result.
The glamorous, elegant, delicate, and feminine character of the literature of Southern Dynasties was derived from that political environment and social background. Subsequently It has had been severely criticized for lack of depth in meaning, and of compassion for the society, despite its emphasis on the aesthetics of formality with narrow subject and content. Nevertheless, it opened a new territory for the aesthetic literature and promoted the capability of artistic expressions, thereby it deserves the undeniable merit for the contribution to the development of contemporary pure literature.
