| Summary: | 碩士 === 東海大學 === 建築學系 === 93 === The inhabitants of the 7th zoning district in Taichung were mainly engaged in agriculture. In 1986, this district was redesigned as an area for the suburban center based on the Taichung urban design. After the implementation of the urban design, different industries, such as department stores, kindergartens, high-level residential districts, pubs and motels, have started to gather in this emerging area. The project of establishing Guggenheim Museum even let this district be deemed a place full of dreams and possibilities. In addition, many large city government projects have also been put into practice afterwards.
In May 2002, Chen Shengming discovered the culture layers of cord-marked pottery culture around the intersection of Shi Zheng Rd. and Huei Lai Rd.. Through a wider investigation in the 7th zoning district by the anthropology team of the National Museum of Natural Science, it was estimated that the archaeological site was larger than 150,000 square meters. The team therefore has started to do excavations and research at 144, City Government difei (see note), around the intersection of Shi Zheng Rd. and He Nan Rd.. This news has drawn attention of Taichung City Government, media, scholars and professionals and has brought out the issue of the balance between the development and the preservation of this archaeological site.
This thesis design is trying to establish a gallery at Hui Lai Li archaeological site. Through this gallery that shows conflicts and possibilities of this site, Taichung citizens and visitors can therefore look back the history of the development of Taichung City and envision the future of this city.
