Summary: | 碩士 === 國立陽明大學 === 醫學工程研究所 === 93 === To improve hearing, hearing aids are widely employed for hearing impairs. The main function of hearing aids is to appropriately adjust input sound. Such adjusting process is called hearing aids “prescription”. With this process, hearing aids may compensate and be enlarged for hearing impairs to receive better hearing according to the degrees of hearing loss. Different hearing aids and prescriptions are suitable for hearing-loss degrees in various ways. Prescriptions nowadays are designed on the basis of English language, but it is proved that different languages possess different characteristics. Is it possible for hearing aids to provide good compensate effect if the prescription for Mandarin is completely imitated from that for English? This study takes investigation on finding which prescription is more appropriate for Mandarin and emphasizing on the purpose “maximum intelligibility”. Which prescription may enable Mandarin to reach the maximum intelligibility?
Emphasizing on “intelligibility”, the basic theory SII (speech intelligibility index) is adopted for improvement and ANSI S3.5 SII setting for designing the maximum intelligibility prescription, abbreviated to HSE. To evaluate the outcomes of various prescriptions for intelligibilities, hearing simulated platform is used in this study to simulate the output sound compensated by hearing aids. With the platform, hearing impairs can listen to disyllabic Mandarin words dealt with different prescriptions. The results are compared with non-prescribed tests, Mandarin intelligibility score with built-in formulas NAL-NL1 and DSL[i/o], and the designed HSE. It is anticipated to obtain the best prescription for reaching the maximum intelligibility in this study.
