Physical mazes and paper-based mazes are usually fixed. However, computer mazes can easily be reconfigured according to computational rules. Nowadays a simple maze can no longer satisfy everyone. Therefore the objective of this thesis is to identify the design elements of maze games and assist game designers creating new maze games. This thesis presents an interactive system to assist game designers explore maze configurations. The system employs computational mechanisms to ensure maze configurations are playable. Furthermore, the system provides additional game elements that designers can put into the maze to create a maze game. In addition to design games, game designers can also use the system to simulate the game play. The resulting statistics of the simulation can assist game designers to evaluate the game. This computer-aided maze game design system is tested by two game designers. The results indicate that with the aid of this system game designers can develop a lot of maze games without having to write computer programs. In addition, designers can evaluate their games immediately. In conclusion, the system can effectively assist game designers to create new maze games.
