As a new design element, digital information gradually has been brought into exhibition planning, and it is now necessary to consider what form(s) of interactive media most appropriately complement the exhibits. Moreover, an interactive medium not only supercedes traditional modes of exhibition for presenting situational historical space, it also extends the possibility of the space in order to develop new situational interactive exhibitions. As a design element, it not only bolsters museum edification and experience by means of situational interactive exhibitions, but also fulfills the demonstration of future exhibition. The purpose of this research is to examine the new notion of interactive exhibition design. It analyzes the modes of attribution latent in unlike spaces, during the process of exhibition space design research, and discusses the design process for the concrete application of virtual space, in this case as established in the cultural museum to provide a foundation for situational learning. Exhibition space design at Taoyuan’s Chinese Furniture Museum has rendered the home of Li Tan- Fu into a situational learning facility which manifests interactive exhibition design planning by means of a three dimensional model. It is judged upon its successful integration with the site, and its functionality in exhibiting and directing. A successful interactive exhibition ameliorates the deficiencies of tradition exhibition design. The research assesses and revises the design principle and prototype based upon an expert's interview. It can confidently be used as a reference basis for situating interactive media design in a cultural museum, combining functions of education, experience and interaction with digital information.
