This study mainly discussed the IR shield materials used by the M56 turbine smoke generator. The characterization of the materials is discussed on the basis of the structural characterization; including Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), BET sorptometer, Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Elemental analyzer (EA) and Network vector signal analyzer. IR and IR thermal-imaging equipment techniques have been used to investigate the IR penetration and thermal extinction. Additionally, this generic method can now be extended to other types of IR shield materials in order to target other applications such as infrared stealth studies or the development of smoke materials.
